If you look around the Lower Mainland today, it seems that many of the traditional single home neighbourhoods are disappearing at a quick pace to make way for condo development. This may be the case in denser populated areas such as Vancouver, but in Port Coquitlam, there are many single home, family oriented neighbourhoods still left and the city wants to make sure that they are an affordable option for families who are looking to call Port Coquitlam home. Here is more information on some of the more traditional neighbourhoods as well as some of the newer neighbourhoods being developed in Port Coquitlam.
Many of the neighbourhoods in Port Coquitlam are of the traditional kind with many of the homes being built in the 1960’s and 1970’s. These neighbourhoods consist of detached, single family homes that are far more affordable than homes in cities such as Vancouver or Burnaby. The neighbourhoods of Port Coquitlam can be broken into two distinct areas – those that sit north of Lougheed Highway and those neighbourhoods that are located south of the Lougheed Highway.
The Neighbourhoods North of Lougheed Highway
The neighbourhoods that sit north of Highway 7 (Lougheed Highway) consist of Woodland Acres, Glenwood or Imperial Park, Birchland Manor, Oxford Heights, Lincoln Park and Riverwood. Within these neighbourhoods are a multitude of elementary schools (7) and two middle schools. There is a multitude of green space in and around the neighbourhoods as well as various city parks. There are many great shopping opportunities with most of the options located along Coast Meridian Road and Prairie Avenue. Most of the houses in these neighbourhoods are single family homes with some areas of higher density family oriented townhouse developments closer to Coast Meridian Road. There are many great, affordable family oriented homes available in this area. I would love to show you why the neighbourhoods north of Lougheed Highway are perfect for you!
The Neighbourhoods South of Lougheed Highway
The area south of Lougheed Highway includes the Port Coquitlam’s downtown district, and the neighbourhoods of Mar Hill, Lower Merry Hill and Citadel. If you look north of Pitt River Road, you will see neighbourhoods that are some of the oldest in the city. There is a great selection of older, more traditional, smaller homes. West of Shaughnessy Road the neighbourhoods are lined with newer family oriented townhouses while south of Eastern Drive you will find more recently built suburban homes that have been specifically built to be smaller starter homes.
The neighbourhoods south of Lougheed Highway offer six elementary schools and one secondary school (Riverside Secondary). These neighbourhoods also lie in close proximity to the PoCo Recreation Centre and the city’s public library. There are many great shopping opportunities in and around the downtown district as well as Coquitlam Centre just up the hill. These neighbourhoods also offer affordable single dwelling homes that are perfectly suited for young families or couples looking for a great neighbourhood and community experience. I would love to show you some of the great housing options that are situated in these Port Coquitlam neighbourhoods.
